Romans' top 5 day’s out for the kids near Winchester

Author: James Cramp

The summer holidays are here and as always, the weather is a little hit and miss. If you’re stuck for things to do with your children whatever the weather, we’ve got the solution.

Our Sales Manager James Cramp has done his homework and has been getting to know Winchester inside and out.

Here are his top five days out for kids:

1)      Winchester Science Centre

Housed in a stunning white pyramid, a hands on activity centre which makes learning fun. Your little ones can learn about space in the planetarium, one of the largest in the UK, stretch their senses on the Mindball experiment, be blown away by the science shows or even try their hand at wheelchair basketball.

2)      Winchester Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is a high-quality library, exhibition space and art gallery all in one building. The centre regularly hosts exhibitions and events and was recently home to the Winchester Science Fair. The on-site café sells delicious cakes, so whilst your kids have got their nose in a book, you can sit back and relax.

3)      Marwell Zoo

Whilst not a total indoor experience, armed with a brolly and an anorak Marwell Zoo can be enjoyed whatever the weather. Just because school is out doesn’t mean your children have to stop learning, a trip to the zoo will not only open their eyes to species from around the world but will also help with their geography.

4)      The Winchester Treasure Trail

These self-guided treasure trails can be purchased online for under £10 and provide hours of entertainment. You can chose between a Spy Mission, a Treasure Hunt and a Murder Mystery Trail… if you really need the peace and quiet, why not opt for all three!

5)      The Adventure Barn

A brilliant indoor playground provides a welcome break for parents come rain or shine. A short distance from Marwell Zoo, the Adventure Barn has its own bistro and regularly hosts events so be sure to check out their Facebook page for the latest updates. The play area has everything you could wish for from tube slides, to cargo obstacles and a dedicated area for small children.
